We are staying in a VRBO apartment near All The Happenings. Our apartment is on the fourth floor of an older apartment building. The door to the building is found down a small street that happens to be slightly larger than an alley. While the apartment is older, it is what appears to be a stereotypical Taiwanese home: no frills, small patio for air drying clothes, a dishwasher that probably hasn’t worked in more than five or six years, and minimal furnishings which are in need of replacement. That said, we have two small bathrooms and three bedrooms which have proven invaluable with the 14 hour time change. About two blocks from our apartment is a day market. While busy on weekdays, it is absolutely packed on the weekends with food,…

Launching
It was time for a change. Scott and I both knew it. He’d been running a million miles per hour at work, and I’d been homeschooling the kids. While everything was going quite well, we both realized at almost the exact moment that we really don’t have that much more time with the kids (when they would want to be with us full time). Since we both waited until we were a little older than the norm to have kids, time seemed to be running out for us…
The big trip: Finally here!!
We planned the long vacation back in July, almost a year ago. Our first week of vacation time didn’t even involve leaving the house. Simply put, we used the week before departure to move everyone (primarily the kids) to the EU time zones. For the first few days of the week, everyone went to bed an hour early and arose and hour early. By the end of the week, the kids were in bed by 5pm and alarms were going off at 4am. Gracie loved it, because it meant that she was able to get long walks before any other dogs were out in the morning. She probably wishes we kept that time table. By the date of departure, the 3:30am wake up was no problem at all for anyone in the house. (Our housesitters who arrived the day before probably didn’t care for it too much…)
We flew to New York (EWR) on May 4. The trip itself was uneventful, but once we arrived, it was quite a whirlwind. …
A little get away
Since we opted to not travel for a chunk of summer and recognized that we wouldn’t be able to last until our trip in May, we decided to do a cruise with the kids as a stop gap. Scott and I had gone on a cruise once before that I gave him for his 40th birthday (before we were married). While the two of us had a great time on that trip many moons ago, we found the food and atmosphere on the boat to be lacking. So this time, we decided to try taking the kids on a little nicer cruise line with some better stops.
We left on Sunday last weekend, …
A little update
Scott and I snuck off to Ft Lauderdale, Florida, for Mom’s 60th birthday. It was fun seeing the family there and we all had a really good time. The kids stayed with a super cool babysitter who has an eight year old little brother. She didn’t take any flack from Caden which was great for the kids. We are sad she is off to college next month. )-:
