We made it to HCMC after an uneventful three hour flight from Taiwan. A little goof at the visa office delayed us slightly but we managed to get into the country with a one year visa. Because our phones (T-mobile) don’t have a contract with Vietnam, we bought some SIM cards at the airport for a few bucks and then took a car to our VRBO.

Our last day in Taipei was a busy one. The kids’ school assignment was to figure out a place to go and then use the MRT (subway) to get us there. The MRT is extremely easy to use, clean and impressively cheap. One can get virtually anywhere in the city for around or less than one dollar. Caden of course picked Krispy Kreme which was fantastic for me because there was a Starbucks next door.

We are staying in a VRBO apartment near All The Happenings. Our apartment is on the fourth floor of an older apartment building. The door to the building is found down a small street that happens to be slightly larger than an alley. While the apartment is older, it is what appears to be a stereotypical Taiwanese home: no frills, small patio for air drying clothes, a dishwasher that probably hasn’t worked in more than five or six years, and minimal furnishings which are in need of replacement. That said, we have two small bathrooms and three bedrooms which have proven invaluable with the 14 hour time change. About two blocks from our apartment is a day market.
